Marian Masterworks Concert Event

Two June concerts will be performed at the Patricia Reser Center for the Arts.  The concerts will be on Saturday, June 3rd, at 7:00 pm and Sunday, June 4th, at 3:00 pm.  For tickets and more information see this page.

The performances feature the hauntingly emotional music of two of Central Europe’s most renowned modern composers.  Latvian composer Ēriks Ešenvalds’ Passion and Resurrection uses texts drawn from Catholic, Protestant, and Byzantine liturgy brought to life through powerfully emotional music.  Next, we’ll move to Poland for Henryk Górecki’s Marian Songs (Pieśni Maryjne), op. 54. Written in 1979, this a cappella work features five movements comprised of musical prayers to different aspects of the Virgin Mary, the patron saint of Poland. Gorecki incorporates Polish folk and sacred music into a gorgeous, flowing, and seemingly simplistic style shaped by modernist elements.
