Jason Sabino

Artistic Director

Praised for his “enthusiastic performances” and a “je ne sais quoi well beyond his years” (Oregon Arts Watch), first-generation Filipino-American Jason Sabino is the second Artistic Director of the Oregon Chorale. He also teaches choir at Century High School and R.A. Brown Middle School in Hillsboro, OR.

Jason frequently prepares choruses for the Oregon Symphony and has collaborated with organizations such as the Oregon Bach Festival, Oregon Ballet Theatre, and the Beaverton Symphony. He is also a sought-after clinician, adjudicator and guest conductor, having led numerous honor choirs across the region. In 2024, he conducted Haydn’s Lord Nelson Mass at Carnegie Hall, leading multiple choirs, including the Oregon Chorale.

As a professional singer, Jason performs with Cappella Romana, Resonance Ensemble, and Trinity Cathedral Chamber Singers. He is also a recording artist with Oregon Catholic Press and has sung with numerous professional and community ensembles across the West Coast. His performance credits include singing under esteemed conductors such as Helmuth Rilling, Carlos Kalmar, and Carl St. Clair, as well as sharing the stage with icons like Barry Manilow, Thomas Lauderdale and the Rolling Stones.

Jason holds a master’s degree in Choral Conducting from Portland State University, where he received the Dean's Award for University Service and served as a graduate teaching assistant and adjunct faculty member. He also taught at Portland Community College. He earned his undergraduate degree in Choral Music from the University of Southern California’s Thornton School of Music, receiving the Choral Department Award. Jason studied conducting with Ethan Sperry, Jo-Michael Scheibe, Cristian Grases, and Donald Brinegar. He is an active member of the American Choral Directors Association (ACDA), Oregon Music Educators Association (OMEA), and the National Association for Music Education (NAfME).

Beyond his professional work, Jason is the founder and leader of the Portland chapter of Beer Choir, hosting community singing events that blend the love of music with the enjoyment of beer. Jason lives in Beaverton with his wife Jenn and daughter Lilia. In his free time, he enjoys video games, movies, anime, a good steak, and root beer.
